This is more of a fun post but there's a point to it. I was listening to a podcast this morning where Tony Robbins was being interviewed...he's out promoting his new book. I have to admit I bought it based upon the press it's been getting more so than actually being interested in the topic. Nevertheless, he makes an interesting point in the interview....which I'm presuming I'll also see in the book:
"Set your goals based on realistic numbers."
How long is one million seconds?
How long is one billion seconds?
Think about that for a moment.....a little less than 11 days and almost 32 years! That's a big difference.
Now think about everything you hear in the press lately. Mostly you hear of valuations in the billions. You hear of M&A transactions in the multi-billion range. And it seems like everyone in the Valley is cashing out and becoming a billionaire. It's enough to drive you mad.
So....don't let it. It's mostly hype and just numbers.......crazy numbers. Reminds me a lot of '99. I remember entering the VC field and thinking "billionaire sounds good"! Well you have to make one dollar (or Euro) after the other and getting to a million is far easier than a billion. Have goals and purse them smartly but be realistic. Billion is a big number.
