You don't really need a Kindle

I also had no need for one. After a colleague purchased one though and I saw the ease of use, I was convinced. This is again, like an iPod, a device which you really don't need but once you have it, you don't want to give it up. The concept of simply having one device for all your books is like having one device for all your music. I don't see myself reading books on my laptop which is technically possible. Yet the Kindle is small enough to take along and since I usually don't take my laptop along anymore, it's easy. I tend to always have a book with me when traveling for example and it's just as easy to take a Kindle. If you haven't checked this device out yet you should. Obviously if you don't read when traveling, don't.

How do you get the books into Kindle with no EVDO connection in Europe?

USB

I, too, didn't need a Kindle. Up until I saw one, and then had to travel to Europe. In a 13 hour plane trip, I can do a lot of reading. Kindle is lighter and easier than books. Especially because, if you get bored of one book, or want to read something else for a change of pace, it's just a few clicks away.

Now that I have it, I find I really use the onboard dictionary as well...
